Pets in Cyprus

If a family pet is your concern, effective October 1, 2004 all animals that enter Cyprus must have a European pet passport that is easily obtained from any vet. A suitable pet travel compartment that meets IATA regulations for moving live animals is essential.

Pets that do have a valid passport, is micro-chipped and has received rabies shot at least one month before the flight but not longer than one year before, may enter Cyprus without quarantine. There is a charge for checking the Pet Passport by the Customs Official at the airport as well as a charge for the delivery note per family of animals. These are both payable by cash at the airport.

Your pet must have a flea, tick and worm treatment 24 to 48 hours before the flight and the relevant pages of the Pet Passport must reflect this treatment. If this step has not been completed, you will be subjected to an additional fee and your pet is subjected to 1 month in quarantine.

If you do not have a valid Pet Passport for you pet and still enter Cyprus your pet is subjected to 6 months in quarantine and you will need to obtain an import license from the Government vet in Limassol. There are some breeds of animals that are not allowed entry to Cyprus so be sure to check the strict regulations before bringing your family pet with you.
